Kids Gig GuideThe summer holidays are about freedom and the beach and outdoor play. But sometimes a little structure can also be good. So here are some fabulous arts events in January for the whole family to enjoy together.

The Gruffalo is coming to the State Theatre Centre Jan 3-14th. Join Mouse on a daring adventure through the deep, dark wood in this magical, musical adaptation of the classic picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. For ages 3+

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre are doing a new adaption of Roald Dahl’s The Twits Jan 8-27th. This comedy of rebellion and justice is a super high energy combination of storytelling, puppetry and physical theatre. It is Roald Dahl in his purest form – unsentimental, grotesque and a lot of fun! Perfect for ages 5+

Barking Gecko are putting on a three day drama workshop Jan 22-24th with playwright/actor Mararo Wangai called A Walk in Their Shoes. Participants will explore the characters of great men and women from all walks of life. Along the way they’ll develop vocal, physical and improvisation skills and make a bunch of new friends. For ages 8-12.

Take the family on a bear hunt at Subiaco Arts Centre from Jan 29th to Feb 3rd with a production of the children’s classic story book. We’re Going on a Bear Hunt has a quirky musical score with ridiculously catchy songs, participatory scenes and plenty of hands-on mischievous adventure. The stage adaptation comes direct from London’s West End and sell-out seasons in Melbourne and at the Sydney Opera House.
